It was ice creams and sun lotion all round at Ireland’s largest country event at Tattersalls International Horse Trials and Country Fair today (Thursday) as the feature equestrian action kicked off in glorious sunshine. Advance ticket sales are already up 10% on last year as huge crowds are anticipated for the favourite all action cross country jumping which starts tomorrow (Friday) and runs until Sunday. The best and most skilful riders in the World will take on the biggest and most daunting fences in Ireland this year at thrilling speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour around the 6 kilometre course in the 200 acre Tattersalls estate which is just outside Ratoath in Co Meath. The fences which are often made up of stone and huge solid tree trunks will be the most challenging fences riders will have faced in Ireland this year and are even more challenging than the famous English Grand National fences in Aintree and so are not the for the faint hearted. One of the most highly anticipated and friendly dog shows will be taking place at the weekend and already there are just over 100 entries entered for the famous special Red Mills arena with even more breeds of all shapes and sizes expected to enter on the day.
